Eucomis comosa (Pineapple Lily)
- Native to Southern Africa
- Grows from enlarged bulbs
- Bears spikes of small star shaped flowers to 75cm
- Leaves are glossy green or purple
- Prefers full sun in any well drained soil
- Flowers are single, small, pink, cream or green spotted purple
- Flowers from summer to autumn
- Propagate in spring from seed or division
- The Xhosa people use bulbs boiled for rheumatism (a poultice)
- Comes in different colours – purple, green, pink
