Gardens We’ll Visit:

The first set of gardens we will visit are at Summerfield Estate, which are predominantly courtyard and verge gardens.  There are also their community gardens and of course the lovely lake and plantings at the entrance to the estate.

It will be a different type of garden visit, with multiple gardens to see.  We will have morning tea in their club house.

The next garden is a very pretty and welcoming garden in a historic cottage (dating back to 1850) in Park Lane. The small front garden has some lovely old roses, tuberous begonias and a Wollemi pine. You walk past a nice little fernery to get to the back garden, which is very eclectic, easy care and dominated by a magnificent old elm.  The garden presents challenges, being the site of an old creek bed and spring and as a result it has lots of pebbles and rocks. There is a lovely calming fishpond, numerous specimen plants, interesting quirky bits and pieces, with a cool climate tropical feel to the garden.  At the back of the garden there are several raised vegetable beds and compost bins.

The final garden is in Monkittee St, with the garden left purposely to go wild.  There are some beautiful old roses, which have inspired the owner’s passion for cut flowers, so she tries to have a good selection of picking flowers – orange next to hot pink is her favourite combination!  She has created a lovely verge garden with a wicker woven boarder to reduce lawn mowing time, but it has given so much more – people stopping to chat and enjoy the process which brings the owner a lot of joy & fun!
